Fireworks Night – Tips on how to calm your pet

Did you know that 80% of pets are scare of fireworks? Firework fears and noise problems are a common problem. Especially at this time of the year for Guy Fawkes Night and the New Year Celebrations.

If you have a pet with a noise phobia then it is a good idea to talk to your local vet who can prescribe medication to calm their fears, also you can talk to them about using a plug in diffuser or spray. A product called Adaptil (for dogs) or Feliway Diffuser or spray (for cats). Each of these last up to 4 weeks.

The diffuser acts as a synthetic pheromone which animal give off naturally to mark their home environment so that they feel more at home.

Some top tips for Firework safety for your pet are:

  •  Provide a den or covered area where your pet can feel safe
  •  Increase the feeling of security by plugging in and Adaptil or Feliway Diffuser.
  •  If your dog starts to pant, shake or whine then ignore this fearful behaviour. Dogs may pick up on their owner’s anxiety which could make the problem worse.
  •  In the run up to fireworks night, walk your dog just before it starts to get dark between 3 – 5pm winter time. It then reduces the possibility of your animal becoming anxious and fireworks being let off.
  •  Provide distractions ie new toys and chews during when the fireworks are going off. Draw all curtains and blinds. Put the TV on or some calming music ie Classic FM or a CD to mask the noise of the fireworks.
  •  DO NOT punish or scold your pet! This will only increase your pets anxiety and they will become more distressed.
  •  Try not to leave pets alone when fireworks are going off. Your pet may panic and hurt themselves during this time.
  •  Close all cat flaps, windows and doors. This will reduce the possibility of your pet escaping in a mad panic.
  •  Consult with your vet first – place 2 drops of Rescue Remedy in your pets water bowl or food bowl when its meal time.
  • If you know a good animal healer then contact them to see if they could about 15 mins healing (in person or via distant) before Bonfire night or the run up to Bonfire night or New Years eve. Or you can contact myself Jude on 07925699344 and I will be happy to send Reiki Healing to your animal, all I need is a name of your pet and where you live.
  •  Provide extra litter trays for cats. Litter trays will be used more as your cat is confined to the house.

WORLD ANIMAL DAY – 4th October (every year!)

WORLD ANIMAL DAY

October 4th was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
It is intended as a day of celebration for anyone in the world who cares about animals. It is not restricted to any one nationality, creed, religion, political belief or ideology. A day to celebrate the wonderful creatures we live amongst, with and around us. They teach us so much – all you have to do is open up your mind and senses and look around. – What have they taught you today?

World Animal Day is:

To celebrate animal life in all its forms
To celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom
To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives
To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives
World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world.

Jude’s ‘July’s Rescue’ – Female Blackbird called Emma & Blackbird Medicine

'Emma' - Female Blackbird

At the start of this week, I was up and ready to walk to work at my usual time of 7am but ‘spirit’ had other plans for me to do with ‘work’ shall we say and I said yes and offered my services.  I found this little lady on the gravel path where I live, as I was walking near her I noticed that her wings were sprayed out and she wasn’t moving, …she wasn’t startled at all and didn’t try and fly away.  So I quietly crept towards her, she tried to scramble away.  She was finding it difficult in moving her legs but using her wings to help her balance.  I carefully picked her up and went back to my home and gently placed her in a cardboard box with a tea towel underneath her ( I have some spare cardboard boxes handy, as this is now my 3 bird rescue since March!) I called upon Archangel Michael and his helpers, elementals to safely look after ‘Emma’  and off I went to work, and gave her some dried meal worms and a small bowl of water.

I came back after my mornings work and thank fully  found her sitting upright looking quite comfortable.  She had eaten all the worms I had left for her and there was a little present to represent it! I then took her to the local vets near me and the kind vet nurse assistant check over her wings and tested her muscle strength in her legs to check there were not fractured in any area. He then said to leave it with them and they will have the vet check her over and off I trotted.

I looked up Blackbird Medicine and there are no coincidences! Meaning: Understanding of the Energies of Mother Nature.  SEASON CYCLE: Summer.

‘Blackbird has long been associated with omens and mysticism.  Its colour, alone has evoked both fear and promise.  Our ‘Emma’ had a streaky brown plummage. The Angel associated with Nature is Anrchangel Auriel, he is the tallest of the Angels and he uses his eyes to see across Eternity.  He oversees all of nature and off of the nature spirits.  Archangel Auriel is also associated with the Summer Season.

Blackbirds are known for fiercely staking out their own territory and they will often drive off any other of their kind that are in the vicinity. A bit like cats.

‘The sight of 2 blackbirds sitting together is often considered a good omen. So if you see the blackbird in your midst you will open to new surprises and to a new understanding of the forces of Nature as they begin to migrate into your life.’   Animal Speak – Ted Andrews

So watch this space guys! I will look open nature and see what surprises have in store for me and keep you updated.

Animal Totem and Knowledge

Squirrel meaning Preparation and Activity

Squirrel meaning Preparation and Activity

With my volunteer work at WRAS I have been privilidge to see lots of baby animals ie squirrels, fox’s (cubs) which seems quite at opposite ends to what is happening in Japan with the theme of loss.  I looked up the animal totem to Squirrel and this creature represents ‘Preparation for change, Squirrels seem to always be active and busy, they spend much of their time storing foods they will need for winter.  Have you examined your own activity and preparedness lately? I am sure that the people of Japan are doing this keeping warm, sheltered and gathering food.  In their great change they will have to be prepared for great change as the country gets back onto its feet again.  They will be also looking for different avenue’s to go down from looking at the devastion the earthquake has caused. Squirrels can teach us balance within the circle of gathering and giving out. Squirrels are the master of preparing.

Ever Wondered if your Aura is the same as an Animals?

The aura is an energy field that surrounds all living things – humans, plants and animals. When we feel good our auras expand to fill more space around us; when we feel tired, ill or down our auras contract. The same applies to animals. Like the human’s, the animal’s aura is made up of many colours in tune with the rainbow, which flows and moves changing colour depending on the mood and feelings it is sensing. But the colours in an animal’s aura will differ, not only in colour, but also in meaning from those in a human aura.
As part of my work as an animal healer I tune in to an animal’s aura to ascertain what the animal is feeling, thinking and whether or not it is healthy.

Read the colours in a pet’s aura you will find that these colours can be applied to any animal, not just dogs and cats, or other domesticated species and animals in the wild.

Amethyst and violet colours : This animal is highly attuned to its owner and the Divine.
Aqua : The animal has healing abilities.
Beiges : Indicate a change in the pet’s environment.
Browns : Suggests the pet has stopped its evolutionary growth and is addicted to certain material things (a certain food, play toy, or even a person)
Light Blue : This pet is peaceful, calm, and sensitive and easily tunes in to its owner.
Orange: Could mean that those annoying habits it is displaying are products of its own creativity.
Pink: Sweet, loving, happy, well balanced.
Red: Stubbornness and anger. This animal is spiteful.
Yellow: Cunning. Watch out! This pet is up to something!
White: The pet has recognized its spiritual connection to the Divine.
Black or Grey: This indicates illness in the physical body.
Gold: Spiritual love and connection. This pet is a healer.
Silver: Compassion and understanding. This pet is also a healer.
Green : Balance. However, when there is excessive green in an animal’s aura, it indicates stubbornness and inflexibility. These pets are difficult to train.

Blessings
